BIC Pen Sketch - Detective Deborah Morgan

Me and My wife are avid Dexter Fans. We watch it on netflix so we are a few seasons behind. But one of my favorite character's is the foul potty mouthed Det. Deborah Morgan. She is the ultimate "Tom Boy". I also want to be able to capture her anatomy and body shape as a character in one of my upcoming projects. She has a unique build and facial structure. Once I get it down it will look cool as a super hero.

We Built this City!

You saw how cheezy Steel City looked in the development phase. Well here she is, the steel mother herself in the intial design stage in SketchUp. Thanks to the very valuable DC Guide to how to draw digital comics, I was able to go from this to what you see above. Stay tuned for the next renders. This is a work in progress that you will see in multiple backgrounds of HellYeah and One Lost Coin.
I cant get this Starship Song out of my head as I work on this. I used to hate this song as a kid when it played on B94. But now I have a greater appreciation for it.

Mr. Cuddle's Kid's Room Layout

I used Google SketchUp to layout the kids room for this short comic for 8 Bit Pulp. I think one of my weak points is backgrounds and I found that a lot of guys out there are using sketch up to layout the background for comics. I came up with this basic room design and added some easter eggs for the project (notice the captain sun poster and the R&RJ posters in the kids room). I am unsure if I am going to use this rendered look of have more of a comic look to the design and use this as a reference in drawing the room. Stay tuned and find out! Get Well Doc

a get well card for one of my buddies that was a little "under the weather".  I thought I would try to draw a UMP and not just scan it or use a 3D model. I like the way it came out. I also am developing a quick coloring technique I want to employ for my cartoon style. So when I color cartoons for myself you will see this cell shaded yet"airbrushed" look. I like the way the skull mascot came out, I was worried that you would not be able to tell that the pirate skull would get lost in the detail. Any feedback or critique is accepted...good, bad or indifferent.

I am a cartoon artist now...

Again working on getting a cleaner more saturday morning cartoon look for this project. The idea is to get the characters to be adorable, likable and lovable...you know "kid friendly and mother approved". I think my normal graphic novel style works well for the covers but inside it would be way too much for a kids story. The first concepts seemed too "adult" and the characters too deep and brooding. Now they feel happy and fun!  GO R&RJ in SPACE!
